Our Trees

Our property was partially wooded when we purchased it, and has mature pin and bur oaks, black cherry, cottonwood, cedar, as well as a white, red, and jack pine trees.

It also has areas that have been overrun by invasive buckthorn, which we make progress on removing every year!

Trees we’ve planted

We have deer. Lots and lots of deer! To protect the trees while they are small we’ve installed 6’ tubes. These also provide some protection in the winter, and help encourage the trees to grow a straight main trunk. These will be removed when the trees outgrow them.

We don’t have a water source on our property, so to give them a drink we use 5 gallon buckets that have a small hole drilled in the bottom. This lets the 2-3 gallons they need each week gradually soak in rather than running off. A shovel full of gravel in the buckets helps ensure that they don’t blow away when empty.
